Gentleman, David: Saxted Windmill – SOLD

The most attractive, sought after and hardest to find of four wind and water mills drawn by David Gentleman for the Curwen Press series ‘British Historic Buildings’. This lithographic print was issued in a limited edition, it was signed in the plate and titled ‘Saxted Mill’ rather than ‘Saxtead Mill’, framed.

Dating from the late 18th century, Saxtead Green Post Mill near Framlingham is a corn mill whose whole body revolves on its base and is one of many built in Suffolk from the late 13th century. Though milling ceased in 1947, it is still in working order and is now a listed building.
