An opportunity to view previously unseen oils and watercolours

Opening on Monday 31st March 2025
Until Saturday 5th March
Edwin La Dell (1914-1970) was one of the most influential printmakers of the early post-war period, promoting printmaking as an affordable art form in a time of austerity and producing lithographs for the ‘Pictures for Schools’, Lyons Teashops and Guinness series. He progressed from working in a Rotherham steelworks to Sheffield School of Art to the Royal College of Art and finally becoming its Head of Printmaking from 1955-1970.
This exhibition draws from his family’s unique collection of original lithographs and previously unseen watercolours and oil paintings dating from the 1930s to 1970. These works depict his final home area of Kent, London, France and Spain, his series of Oxbridge colleges and public schools and finally New York. ‘Eddy’ La Dell was also an official war artist and his work is held in many collections including the Royal Academy, Tate Gallery, the V&A and the Government Art Collection.
Entry is free and all the works are for sale.
The first image shows the 1964 oil on board 'Snow on the Weald', the middle image is the 1959 lithograph 'Westminster Abbey' and the final image is the 1964 lithograph 'The Meadows' (Oxford).
