Artist description:
Bernard Kohn lived and worked in Philadelphia and is particularly recognised for his printmaking especially wood engraving and silkscreen printing. Although an American artist, he was profoundly influenced by British artists of the 1950s including Stanley William Hayter, Blair Hughes-Stanton, Henry Moore, John Piper and Ben Nicholson.
He worked as a music publisher which enabled him to travel throughout Europe especially in London and Paris where he was influenced by Picasso, Matisse, Mondrian and Klee.
He exhibited throughout Philadelphia and had several one-man shows at the East Side Gallery in New York. He has works in collections in Paris, the Library of Congress and galleries and museums in Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia and San Francisco.
