Title and date: Kings Cross Gasometers, 1960s.
Size of picture: 18.8 x 27 cms.
Description: an atmospheric watercolour, pen and ink on paper in superb condition, capturing a scene looking towards gasometers in Goods Way in the Kings Cross area before its regeneration, signed and newly framed.

Artist description: Peter Jones grew up in East Sheen, West London and trained at the Richmond Art School during the 1930s. During World War II he joined the Royal Air Force and was seconded to the ATA Service, where he was required to collect all types of planes from wherever they were built, repaired or stationed, and deliver them to where they were needed.
After the war he became involved with The Moderns, a group of artists formed around Jack Bilbo, a champion of new art at the time and had his first solo show in 1946 at The Modern Art Gallery. He worked in picture restoration and for several years at the Grosvenor Galleries while creating his own drawings, paintings, collages and reliefs. Peter Jones built a successful artistic career with a specialism in urban art, his work appeared in many important collections and exhibitions including in the Queen’s Collection, the V and A and at the Royal Academy.
