Artist description:

A self-taught artist and especially a painter of landscapes in watercolour, Arthur Miles worked as a process artist, a signwriter and a painter of scenery before becoming a self-employed designer and artist. He was able to paint full-time from the late 1960s, working in Gwaelod y Garth, Glamorgan. He was a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours from 1949 and of the Welsh Group, and showed in group exhibitions with the Royal National Eisteddfod, the Society for Education in Art and at the Royal Academy in the early 1950s. Solo shows included Howard Roberts and the Albany Galleries, Cardiff; Clarges Gallery and the Welsh Gallery in Abergavenny. The National Museum of Wales, the Contemporary Art Society for Wales and Welsh Arts Council all hold his work.
