Padraig Macmiadhachain’s stunning ‘Dream City’ fabric designed for David Whitehead in the 1960s. We have both the red and orange colourways available, each is a full pattern width repeat with both selvedges (whch have been hemmed under) and would look fabulous when framed.

Padraig Macmiadhachain (pronounced mac-mee-a-hon) was born in Ireland and studied at Belfast College of Art from 1947-1949 and the National College of Art in Dublin in 1950. In 1957, he was awarded a British Council travelling scholarship to Moscow and three years later received a further scholarship from the Russian Government which he spent in Poland. He continued to travel widely to paint and exhibit work reflecting the colours and character of his chosen locations – in North, South and Central America, North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia, as well as in Eastern and Western Europe.
In 1959 he moved to the Isle of Purbeck on the Dorset coast where he lived and painted for the rest of his life. He held many mixed and solo exhibitions including in London, Madrid – sponsored by the Spanish Government, Dublin, Belfast – sponsored by The Arts Council, Las Palmas, Krakow, Los Angeles, Seattle and Vancouver. He contributed to the Irish Exhibitions of Living Art in the 1960s alongside Gerald Dillion, Camille Souter and Louis Le Brocquy, and William Scott had a profound influence on his later work.
His work is in many public, corporate and private collections including HM Carlos, King of Spain, the late Peter Sellers, Bob Monkhouse, The Arts Council (Ireland), NBC, Caja Insular de Ahorres de Gran Canaria, Escuela de Bellas Artes (Las Palmas), Hereford College, Oxford, Sussex University, The late President Chernenko, The Bank of China, SG Warburg, Sun Oil International USA and Kobe Steel.
