Artist description:
John Jackson was born in Kings Lynn in 1938 and lived in a railway house at Harbour Junction beside the main Kings Lynn to London line. In 1953 he cut his first pieces of lino and this work helped him to secure a place at the Norwich School of Art. His subject matter is well known including local urban and coastal studies, derelict buildings, the declining fishing industry, field and garden studies.
He has been exhibiting with Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers since 1961 of which he is a Senior Fellow, and with the Society of Wood Engravers since 1967 of which he is a member. In 1995, he began to pursue printmaking full-time and has held regular one-man and collaborative exhibitions including at the Bircham Gallery, Norfolk since 1996; the Grapevine Gallery, Norwich and the Mall Galleries, London
