Artist description:
A painter, printmaker, illustrator and teacher, Jane Cummings was born in Richmond, Surrey and lived in Northwood, Middlesex. She studied at Harrow School of Art, Chelsea School of Art under Graham Sutherland and Harold Williamson, and at the Central School of Art with Clarke Hutton. She exhibited widely in the south of England and her work was purchased by London County Council and the Hertfordshire Education Committee. She produced theatre cut-out books in the 1940s, the best known of which is `Theatre You Can Make` published in 1948 in the Penguin books `Puffin` series.
