Description

Artist description:

A painter always referred to as Cosmo Clark, he studied at St. Mark’s School, Chelsea and Goldsmiths’ College. He saw active service with the Artists’ Rifles in the First World War and was awarded the Military Cross. He furthered his studies at the Royal Academy between 1918 and 1921 when he began to teach life painting at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts and became a member of the South London Art Group. In 1938 he was appointed Head of Hackney School of Art. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, the New English Art Club and at the Royal Watercolour Society of which he was an elected member. His work is held in a range of collections including the Government Art Collection, the Imperial War Museum and the Graves Art Gallery, Sheffield.
