Artist description:

Born in 1900, and especially recognised an a watercolourist, Levrel enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts in Nantes in 1916 and was influenced by the works of Courbet, Bonnard, Laprade and Valloton. In the following year, he studied at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and held his first exhibition in 1927. He had a life long connection with Algeria which began in 1930 and which he renewed throughout his life. He is especially recognised as an artist of the daily life of Paris capturing its busy boulevards, squares and the banks of the Seine as in this print.
