Artist description:

Robert King was born in Leicester in 1936, he attended Leicester College of Art from 1952-54 before completing two years army service in Egypt between 1954 and 1956. He resumed art school in 1957 then worked for a time as a shoe designer whilst continuing to paint and exhibit in Leicester, London and abroad. He was elected a Member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours in 1969, he held his first solo exhibition in Leicester in 1970 and has since exhibited in the USA, Canada and Jersey. He has also held one-man exhibitions in Jersey and Lymington, where he moved in 1989, to a coastguard’s cottage overlooking the Solent. A painter of seascapes, Robert became a Member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists in 1985 and an example of his work is in the collection of the National Maritime Museum.
