Artist description:

Born in Corsham, Wiltshire and educated at New College, Oxford, Paul Ayshford was a Trustee of the National Gallery and the Tate Gallery between 1938 and 1945. Recognised primarily as a landscape and figure painter, his first one man show was held at the Warren Gallery in 1928; he exhibited at the New English Art Club from1931 and at the Royal Society of British Artists from 1936. His status was confirmed by, for example, his appointment as an Honorary Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1947 and membership of the Royal Academy in 1959.
