Designer description:

An illustrator and textile designer, Marian Mahler was born in Austria and left Vienna in the 1930s as the Nazis gained control. She emigrated to Britain in 1937 and settled in London where her Viennese design training contributed to mid-century British modernism, and by the 1940s, she was already an influential textile designers. Her work was marked by whimsical figures and abstract forms which captured the attention of John Murray, Director of Furnishing Fabrics for leading textile manufacturer David Whitehead Ltd. Mahler’s designs were soon successfully used on furnishing fabrics to appeal the younger generation of the time.
